When the pandemic hit last year, it created an atmosphere of loneliness and isolation. People were forced to stay apart, cutting off contact with family, friends, and even their neighbors. In Agoura Hills, California, one group of residents decided to take matters into their own hands by uniting to purchase a set of ihug Friendship lamps.
The ihug Friendship lamps are a set of two lamps that are connected via Bluetooth. When one lamp is touched, the other one lights up in a different color as a gesture of friendship. The lamps were initially developed to help people stay connected with their long-distance friends and family, but the Agoura Hills residents decided to use them to stay connected with their neighbors.
The residents purchased the lamps and placed them on their front porches. Now, when one neighbor touches their lamp, the other neighbors’ lamps light up to show that they are thinking of each other.
The idea has been a huge success in the community, with neighbors using the lamps to send messages of friendship and support. One resident said, “My neighbor was having a tough day and I used the lamp to let her know that I was thinking of her. I could see the light in her window when it lit up and it brought a smile to my face.”
The lamps have become a symbol of unity in the community and a reminder that even though people are apart, they can still be connected. Even though the pandemic has created a lot of hardship, the residents of Agoura Hills have found a way to stay connected and remain united.
